In 1993, under the tripartite direction of Thierry Raspail, Thierry Prat and Marc Dachy (as guest curator), the Biennial took on a more historical appearance. Under the title "Et tous ils changent le monde", some fifty artists presented major art-works of the 20th century, as well as creations executed for the occasion. Previously-unseen works by Kazimir Malevitch, traces of discourses by Marcel Duchamp, Kurt Schwitters' Merzbau and videos by Bill Viola were installed in a single venue: the Halle Tony Garnier.
During this Biennial, the presence of painters, poets, writers and philosophers cast light on the interaction between the plastic and verbal transformations of the present century.
