Stan Douglas
Born in 1960 in Vancouver (Canada), where he lives and works.

"Nut'ka" (1996), a video installation which evokes the arrival of European explorers on the west coast of Canada in the 18th century, thereby alienating the landscape.

Douglas's works present themselves as reconstructions of the past which probe the ability of the image to elucidate the appalling pages of history. The video installation Nut'Ka treats the first (tragic) contacts between the Indians of Nootka island and the European "invaders".
