The D.S. constitutes an ironic commentary on a mythical object associated with a particular country (France) and a particular era (the "thirty glorious" post-war years). This is not, however, to deny the pleasure that is offered to the eyes, given that the car itself remains beautiful and poised - a seductive mini-goddess.
