direction des musées de france

The ministry of culture, through the DMF and the Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles (DRAC), has always supported the Musée d'Art Contemporain in Lyon.

Since 1990, the Biennials have been at the heart of this establishment's scientific project, with debates on contemporary art at the national and international level.

The DMF has always promoted such policies. This year, it is through the funds allocated to regional bodies that it is assisting the Biennial.

An event such as the Biennial reinforces the considerable ongoing effort that is made by the Musée d'Art Contemporain to reach out towards an ever-larger public.

The DMF is very attentive to this innovative work, which contributes to bringing contemporary art to the attention of the visitors to the Biennial.
It also provides technical assistance, making available to its partners its network of public bodies. For example, its cooperation with Maisons de la France, which promotes the French tourist industry, is a vehicle for the widespread distribution in other countries of information about this event.

In 1995 the DMF, through the RMN, participated not only in the publication of the catalogue but also in the publication of a CD-ROM which gave numerous artists the opportunity to experiment with this new medium.

This year, the Musée d'Art Contemporain's scientific team, under the direction of its curator, Thierry Raspail, has called on Harald Szeemann to develop the theme of "L'Autre".

The museum will thus create a passage between the classical fine arts and contemporary creation, emphasising the importance of the creative act.
