The 4th Biennial of Contemporary Art is a renewed occasion for discoveries and pleasures. It will mark, for the first time this year, the summer in Lyon.

In the course of a poetic odyssey, artists from around the world will be offering us monumental, unexpected works, brought together around a common theme: “L’Autre”, (The Other).

“L’Autre”, as seen by Harald Szeemann, the general curator of this exhibition and Lyon is honoured to welcome him. “L’Autre”, understood in its multiple acceptations, like an invitation to encounters and exchanges.

This great cultural reunion will not fail to contribute to the influence of our city, and to confirm its dynamism. It will also demonstrate Lyon’s increasing interest in contemporary art.

This biennial will also be present, for the space of a day (September 7), in the very heart of the city, in Place Bellecour. An exhibition of popular art in the open air will be the occasion for amateurs and professionals together to compose works that combine technical skill and a creative approach.
During the entire summer period, Lyon will move to the rhythm of contemporary art in all its forms.

As the Mayor of Lyon, I cannot but be delighted that our city is organising an event of this scope, inviting artists, creators, teachers and visitors to look at contemporary art through “other” eyes.
