Pierre Huyghe

Born 1962 in Paris
Lives and works in Paris and New York

As curious as it may seem, one of the most famous architects in the world, Le Corbusier, built only one building in the United States, the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard. This institution asked Pierre Huyghe to create a global and multidisciplinary project that explored Le Corbusier's vision of the building's conception. Starting with a puppet show, which includes both the figures from Le Corbusier's project and those from the Pierre Huyghe command, the artist retraces the history of the building and that of his own project, which includes both the temporary architectural extension and the construction of a puppet theatre at Harvard. The puppet show also details the controversies and tensions between the different protagonists. Huyghe + Corbusier: Harvard Project is, in a way, the celebration of both the real and the scripted creation of a building, around which forms a community of interest and ideas in new territory. The new stage of this work in constant evolution is presented today at the Biennial in the form of a film, a poster and a booklet both designed by M/M (Paris).
