HOU HANRU
born 1963 in Guangzhou lives and works in San Francisco
Artistic director of the 2007 Istanbul Biennial, art critic and curator Hou Hanru has just moved from Paris to San Francisco, where he is currently director of exhibitions and public programs at the San Francisco Art Institute. He has over fifty exhibitions to his credit, including the second Guangzhou Triennial (with Hans Ulrich Obrist and Guo Xiaoyan, 2005), the third Tirana Biennial (2005), “Out of Sight” for the De Appel Foundation (2005), the 2004 Nuit Blanche in Paris and “A L’Ouest Du Sud De L’Est / A L’Est Du Sud De L’Ouest” at the Villa Arson, Nice (2004). He is a regular writer for “Flash Art”, “Frieze”, “Art Monthly”, “Third Text”, “Art and Asia Pacific”, “Domus”, “Atlantica”, “Texte Zur Kunst”, and “Tema Celeste”.
